Master the Hesy Pull by combining a floating skip with an aggressive back-foot push into a split stance, finishing with a deceptive shot.
The drill
Relaxed skip with high-to-low dribble → aggressive back-foot push into split stance → bring back foot into shot.-->shoot the ball .
down one of my all-time favorite moves, the hezi pull. Step one to our hezi pull is a slight little baby skip. Nothing crazy, we're just skipping off our inside foot. You're coming down the court relaxed, play with a high to low height change. We want to look like we're floating. Step two to our hezi pull is our back foot push. This is where our oomph comes from. So after our little skip, this push off the back foot has to be aggressive. We're working to get into the split stance as if we're going to drive to the basket. We're going from a float to a push and stick that split stance. Step three is to bring that back foot into your shot. The keys are to really stick it into the ground to help you pop off the ground. That's your signal to say hey, I'm shooting it. The last key to our hesi pull is our eyes. We want to look relaxed. You can look up at the basket, up at a teammate, you can be passive or you can be engaged. It's up to you, but make sure you're intentional with where you put your eyes.
Is this drill for you?
For novice scorers (Level 2) learning the hesi pull - skip into a back-foot push, stick the split stance, rise into the jumper.
Variations: Keep eyes relaxed; stick the back foot before rising.
In a game: The float makes the defender relax - the push and stick is the jumper he never sees coming.
5 minutes; needs a hoop.
Harder: Master the Skip Hesi Step →
