Master the spin move with aggressive punch dribbles and tight ball tucks, progressing from two-foot to one-foot finishes to evade taller defenders.
The drill
Punch dribble with inside foot step → pocket ball and tuck for spin → drive elbow around → land on two feet or one foot for finish.
Let's break down one of my favorite moves, the spin move. Very effective, especially against a taller defender. Step one is to punch dribble and step with your inside foot aggressively, just like this. Step two is after our punch dribble, we're gonna pocket the ball and tuck it for a spin, getting all the way around to the hoop, and drive our elbow to help spin us around on that tuck. Then we're gonna land on two feet for our finish. Let's put it all together from the elbow. The quicker and tighter we can spin, the better. As you work with this move and get more comfortable, you can learn to finish off one foot.
Is this drill for you?
For intermediate finishers (Level 3) mastering the punch-dribble spin move into two-foot and one-foot finishes.
Variations: Per the trainer: drive the elbow to spin faster, and progress from two-foot to one-foot finishes.
In a game: The punch-dribble spin is the counter to taller defenders - tuck, spin tight, and land on two under control.
Needs a hoop.
