This drill challenges players to maintain an aggressive line to the rim, developing quick decision-making and finishing skills against active defense.

The drill

Rim Line Advantage Drive

5 min · 8 reps

Offense starts with ball, defense initiates movement → Offense drives past defender -> Keeps defender on their hip while maintaining a straight line to the rim → Finish with a layup.

Transcript
Okay offense is here, defense is there. All we're doing now is working on the advantage of keeping the line to the rim. Defense starts the drill, so Dawson you go, whatever way you want to go. Boop, I'm here, right? I'm hol- boop, now I'm holding, now I'm finishing. Good Caden, there you go.

Is this drill for you?

For intermediate scorers (Level 3) who get cut off on drives and want to hold the rim line against a live defender - partner and hoop required.

Trains: finishing · body control · decision-making · first-step speed

Variations: Defender chooses the direction each rep.

In a game: Pinning a defender on your hip and holding the line is exactly how you finish against a trailing defender off the drive.

Needs a partner to play defense - the drill starts on the defender's move.
