Master floor tap shooting to extend your range and generate powerful hip-driven shots, focusing on a fluid, straight up-and-down motion.
The drill
Set shooting base, eyes on rim → Load ball in pocket → Tap floor, drop hips → Shoot in one fluid, straight up motion.
Floor tap shooting is a great way to extend your range and produce power from your hips to shoot. Super simple. Start with your shooting base. Eyes locked on the rim. All we're going to do is get our hand in our shooting pocket position loaded back and tap the floor and shoot in one motion like this. The keys here are to keep your chest up and drop with your hips not your back. Straight down, straight up. Work on shooting the ball in one motion. No stops in your momentum. Limit the movement of the ball by focusing on straight up and down, not left and right. Down, up.
Is this drill for you?
For novice shooters (Level 2) extending range - tap the floor, drop the hips, and shoot in one straight up-and-down motion.
Variations: Step back a foot each time it stays fluid.
In a game: The floor tap loads the hips so range comes from the legs, not a heave from the chest.
5 minutes; needs a hoop.
