This high-tempo progression of between-the-legs dribbles, from stationary to lateral and forward steps, sharpens ball control, rhythm, and shiftiness.
Drill 1 of 3
Wide stance, low dribble between legs (right hand → left hand) while staying stationary-->crossover --> repeat with other side.
Drill 2 of 3
Between legs dribble → lateral step (right foot right, ball left) → hit three pound dribbles .
Drill 3 of 3
Between legs dribble → forward step (right foot forward, ball left) → hit three pound dribbles--> return back with a under drag.
Is this drill for you?
For advanced handlers (Level 4) who own a stationary between-the-legs dribble and want to weaponize it with lateral and forward steps - no hoop or partner needed.
The ladder: Stationary between-legs first, then add a lateral step, then a forward step with an under-drag return.
Variations: Stationary, lateral-step, and forward-step versions; both sides.
In a game: The between-the-legs step is a staple for attacking a defender's top foot - this builds the move from stationary into the lateral and forward steps you need to actually get by someone.
Pound dribbles make it loud indoors. Too advanced for beginners.
